In this case creates of a connection with the mind, body and spirit to find a balance . It involves body weight resistance and holding various positions on a "Yoga Mat" for a certain period of time .
Pilates on the other hand focuses on trying to relax muscles which are tense and provide strengthening of the numerous muscles of the body. Although also performed a similar exercise mat "yoga mat" with hardly any difference. It involves various strengthening exercises and movements that target the core and other muscles. With pilates there is more of a balance between building strength and flexibility. More of a mind and muscle connection with Pilates .
Both have their benefits but if flexibility , mental harmony, spirituality and calm is more of interest then yoga might be the obvious option but if the emphasis is more of muscle strengthening , muscle soreness as well as some added benefits of flexibility then Pilates would be a good idea. Pilates would be ideal for people who do weight training or any physical activities involving muscle building and fatigue ...
Some people incorporate both to get all the added benefits .
